Historic town of Nairn

Nairn is a lovely old town along the coast. It is the town that is closest to the Campsite and has all you need for shopping, eating out and buying a souvenir or two. I would recommend a walk along the award winning beach or just wander along the High Street.

Inverness - Capital of the Highlands

One of the many joys of Inverness is the rich variety of places to visit and things to do both in and around the city. The city boasts a host of historic buildings, notably in the Old Town, which you can appreciate while you browse city shops from the Victorian Market to the new award-winning Eastgate centre.

Take a stroll to Inverness Castle, currently used as a courthouse, and St Andrew's Cathedral, which dominate the River Ness and one of the most beautiful riverside settings in Britain. Enjoy the fine circular walk from the castle along the river and through the Ness Islands where you can watch anglers casting long lines to leaping Atlantic salmon. You can even buy a daily ticket and try it for yourself.

Fishing the river nairn

From our farm premises, you can walk directly to the River Nairn. This is a famous Trout and Salmon river and has many pools where some good fish was and is being caught. If you fancy fishing yourself, do not to forget to apply for a fishing permit. There are weekly or daily permits for sale. You can buy these on the High Street in Nairn at Pat Fraser’s (41 High Street, Nairn IV12 4AG)

The Scottish law tells the following about fishing:

The fishing season starts on March 3rd and ends on October 7th. You can fish from sunrise until sun goes down. Fishing on a Sunday is not allowed

When walking down to the river, there is not really a path down to the river so please be very careful and use the right footwear (no flipflops!). At the bottom of the field where the trees start you will see a gate on your right (yes, it is a bit overgrown). Climb over this fence or pass besides it. Then go down the steep river bank.
